Mental Health Awareness Week
Today marks the start of Mental Health Awareness Week in the UK.
Living with bowel disease affects every part of life. Sadly, stigma still exists around these illnesses and can cause mental health to suffer enormously.
Low self esteem, shame, depression, anxiety and other problems mean lots of patients are locked in a silent struggle well beyond medical treatment.
In the future research is going to be key to understanding the link between gut health and mental health. It will help us develop new ways of supporting patients and making sure they don’t suffer in silence.
It’s vital to remember that you are not alone and there is a huge range of support available.
But for now – If you’re ever struggling with your mental health please reach out and speak to somebody.
The video below is aimed at sharing that message. Do watch and share!
